Breakdown in negotiations, what will happen next ?
As you all will know by now thursday 21st of May 2015 it came to a collapse in the negotiations between the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association (NR) and Industri Energi (IE) over this year’s wage adjustments for the second year of the Collective Agreement. (There is also breakdown in the negotiations for SAFE and DSO over the same agreement).

Subsequant to this, IE has terminated the Colective Agreement and filed a Notice of Collective Dismissals for 17 rigs/vessels in 22 companys to the National mediator. The notice involve approx. 1400 members in this round.
For us in Maersk Employee Association (MAF) the collective dismissal filed will affect “Maersk Giant” and will include 111 members of the local branch (MAF).

The Industri Energi claim was based on the settlement for the frontrunner trades metween LO and NHO (Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise) and the follwing settlement between Industri Energi and the Norwegian Oil and Gas Association (NOG) which secured moderate increase in wages adjusted to the present economic situation. But, when the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association choose a confrontational attitude we have no other option than to bring the settlement before the National mediator, who probably will quickly determine a date for final mediation.

We will revert with further information when the date for mediation is settled.

If it comes to industrial conflict (strike), the “Maersk Giant” will be on strike from the date stated by the National mediator (date not presently known).

MAF will keep you updated and informed as soon as we know anything more.
